About the Author

Welcome to kazutana.com. I am Kazu, the founder and main contributor to this blog.

At 82 years young, I have lived a life enriched by diverse experiences—from my professional years stationed in New York in my late 30s to my personal passions for golf, reading, cinema, and global travel. These experiences have given me a unique perspective on both Japanese culture and the Western world.

My Connection to Okinawa

For the past 12 years, I have made it my tradition to spend the spring season (from late February to late April) in Naha, Okinawa. This allows me to escape the cedar and cypress pollen of mainland Japan while immersing myself in the distinct history, vibrant culture, and serene beauty of the Ryukyu Islands.

My Mission

Having lived in the United States and traveled extensively, I realized that there is so much more to Japan than what is typically shown in guidebooks.

Through this blog, I aim to bridge the gap between Japan and the West by sharing:

  • Deep insights into Okinawa: From its historical sites to its modern-day charm.
  • Hidden Gems of Japan: Introducing various regions of Japan through the eyes of a lifelong traveler.
  • Japanese Heritage: Sharing the essence of Japanese life, history, and values.

I hope my stories and observations inspire you to explore the profound beauty of Japan. Thank you for visiting my site!
